Getting the Committee’s Name Right By Bailey Compton 13 Oct 2023
What do we call you now?
The public service loves to test us. They feel the need to change traditional names because it fits with current policy. For example, a landlord in Victoria is an “accommodation provider”. In the US, doctors are being called “health providers”. Must be great for oncologists!
We grew up with strata plans and community associations being called “Executive Committees”. I still find myself resorting to these definitions.
We need to get with the times. The new names are:
1 Strata Committee for owners corporations; and
2 Association Committee for community title.
Forgetting the levity: using the wrong name in a by-law can lead to it being rendered unenforceable. So I promise to complete my committee tables this week.
